Federico Dimarco feels that Inter Milan have forged something special and permanent with their twentieth Serie A title win in their history.

Speaking at the Nerazzurri’s trophy presentation yesterday, via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old proclaimed that “When we see a star we make a wish, now when we see two we’ll think of Inter.”

Winning this Serie A title always held a particular significance for Inter.

The reason is that, for the past few seasons, the Nerazzurri have been stuck at nineteen titles in total.

The 2009-10 title – the one in which Inter won the European Treble – had been Scudetto number eighteen.

And then the 2020-21 league title under Antonio Conte was number nineteen.

Inter had come close to winning the title against the following season, but missed out by just a couple of points to city rivals AC Milan.

Then last campaign the Nerazzurri were miles behind runaway Serie A leaders Napoli.

This time, though, there was no mistake. Inter won the Serie A title, and did so in quite dominant fashion.

Federico Dimarco: “When We See Two Stars, We’ll Think Of Inter Milan”

Winning Serie A title number twenty means more than just reaching a round number for Inter.

The symbolic importance of the this Scudetto is that, for every ten titles that a team wins, they get to sew one more star on their chests.

Juventus are well out in front with three stars already, the result of 36 titles.

Meanwhile, Inter and city rivals Milan were the only teams with a star prior to this season.

And in fact, at the start of the campaign, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri both had nineteen titles to their names.

Therefore, there was something of a race to the second star.

And this season, it was Inter who won that race – and by clinching it in the derby against Milan no less.

Dimarco said that “From now on, when we see a star, we’ll make a wish…”

“But when we see two stars, we’ll think of Inter!” he declared.
